The city of Paris, Kentucky is steeped in equestrian history with countless racehorses living, competing or retiring in the area, with the most famous racehorse being Secretariat. Buried at Claiborne Farm, he left a mark on the hearts of the country, racing enthusiasts and Bourbon County citizens.
“The Secretariat Park Foundation started with a dream to get initial donations to fund the park and the first big jumping off point was Blue Grass Federal,” says Debbie Poynter, a member of the tourism commission.
As a community bank, we understand how important foundations and traditions like these are to those who live in our communities. With our donation as well as several others, Secretariat Park officially opened in 2023 to honor the racehorse Secretariat. The park is open 24 hours a day, is free to the public and has two memorials: one three-story mural of him winning the 1973 Kentucky Derby, and a life-size bronze statue adorned with greenery and park benches.
